  • form

    Males and females are around 17- and 30-millimeter-long respectively. They have orange body. Their head, antennas, elytra and legs are dark brown. For the thorax, the back side is orange and the inside of the both sides is transparent in round shape. Its elytra have dense comb-patterned spots. Males have well-developed wings in dark brown, so they can fly around. However, females’ wings have atrophied, so they crawl on the ground or stem of grass just like larvae. They have luminous organ at the end of abdomen in off-white color, which is also observed in larvae.

  • ecology

    They are usually observed near the clean stream at the foot of the mountains, in the shady grass full of bushy copse, or paddies. They usually feed on snails or univalve shells near the wet valley.
