Tettigoniidae
August to September
Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan
It is around 35~37-millimeter-long. The entire body is green or yellowish brown. They have a little plump body with the head and compound eyes sticking forward. Spur on the crown of the head is almost triangle-shaped, and it reaches to the side margin of the antennas but does not lead to face spur. There are brown stripes on the upper side of head and thorax. The prothorax is quite wide with a little vertically concave shape in the middle. In terms of fore wings, males’ ones are light brown and females’ are light yellow with round front margin.
They are commonly observed on the leaves of plants in the mountains or grass at night. Males make a sound by bumping file-shaped venation in the left fore wing into the friction of the right fore wing to attract females. They emerge once a year and survive winter as eggs.
