Acrididae
July to October
Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan
Males and females are around 40∼50- and 75-millimeter-long respectively. The females are the biggest among grasshoppers inhabiting in Korea. The entire body is quite big and tube-shaped in green or brown color. There is usually one vertical line in the upper side of thorax but sometimes 3 dark lines. Antennas are wide in a knife shape. Wings are extended beyond the end of abdomen and its ends are sharp. When males fly around, they make a sound by bumping fore and hind wings.
They inhabit in areas where plant species of the grass family (poaceae or gramineae) grow in mountains, fields or paddies. They eat plant species of the grass family with strong mandible. They survive winter as eggs and emerge once a year.
