It is around 70~95mm-millimeter-long. They have big-sized body in green or brown color, which is similar to mantis, but it is distinguished in terms of purplish brown patterns on the area near the body when their wings are spread. Its antennas are longer than that of other species, and the back side of the prothorax is a little longer than coxa of fore legs. Fore legs are well-developed as raptorial leg. There are over 16 of short stings at the bottom of the coxa, 4 in outer margin at the bottom of femur, and around 17 in the lower edge. The middle-sized stings are 4, and particularly, the second one is long and large.
They predate other insects, and females lay their eggs covered with wax lipid secretion in branches or rocks. Oothecae are thick, and its both or one corner is flat, which looks like short tube. They survive winter as eggs.
