May to August
Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Europe and North America
It is around 90~120-millimeter-long when spreading its wings. The edge and venation of wings are black on a yellow ground. There are red spots at the edge of inside the hind wings, which easily distinguishes them from ‘smaller citrus dog (Chinese yellow swallow tail)’.
The butterflies emerge twice a year, and they have habits of gathering at the top of mountains. Both males and females are attracted to Korean early lilac, azalea, dogtooth violet, peach tree and lilac in spring, and lychnis, cranesbill and false spiraea in summer. Their food plant is apiaceae.
