    It is around 30~55-millimeter-long. They are the biggest among beetles in Korea. Males have a long spur on its head as well as another spur on the back of thorax. It is also called as Japanese rhinoceros beetle in Japan because the head of males looks like strong man with a helmet on the head. The entire body is a little long ellipse with brilliant black or brown color. Only males have spurs, but females have no spurs and they are also quite small compared to males. They have sharp claws good for climbing trees. The antennas are short and the ends are blunt.

    They inhabit in various types of trees such as oak trees and quercus serrata. They survive winter as larvae and emerge as imagoes around July. They are famous for pet insects and being sold all over the country thanks to the development of mass propagation techniques.
