Carabidae
May to September
Korea
Males and females are around 23~25- and 25~28-millimeter-long respectively. They have black body with beautiful metal grace of turquoise blue, jade green, deep purple or dark green color. They have a big head with a thick neck and robust mouthparts which makes them easily distinguishable from similar species. Its elytra look like a long ellipse with structure of mesh pieces. The hind wings have atrophied, so they have no enough power to fly.
Both larvae and imagoes are active at night, and eat larvae of earthworms, snails, butterflies and moths in the forest. It is Korean endemic species, rarely appearing only in some parts of mountain primeval forests. Damaster mirabilissimus kana, one of the subspecies, very rarely emerges in Mt. Deokyu.
